CJ 421 Lecture 17: CJ 421 Notes 03-06-2017
Document Summary
The writing on the wall: forgeries and handwriting. Last time we considered two other forms for impression evidence: skin and tool marks. We use uv light to look at skin impressions. Melanin in the skin (gives your skin different coloration) doesn"t absorb. So as the melanin gets pushed into the skin, it shows the impression evidence. Shows for up to 5 minutes up to about an hour. Mark and tag the fresh clippings so you don"t confuse them with the original ones (ex: clipping something out of a fence) Ex: you clip through a fence (burglar) and you want to cover up your fence clippings - take a lighter to the fence to distort it a bit. Today we are going to look at a unique form of impression evidence: forgeries and handwriting (questioned documents) Two basic approaches to questioned documents (qd) Analysis comes typically in two forms: handwriting analysis and materials examination.
