The amount of energy is measured in kilocalories or kilojoules, depending on the
country you are in
1 kilocalorie = 4.18 kilojoules or 4184 joules
o Kilocalorie is abbreviated kcalorie or kcal.
o Kilojoule is abbreviated kjoule or kJ.
Carbs are broken down into sugar and starches
Lipids are broken down into fatty acids
Proteins are broken down into amino acids
