Document Summary

Get name name for their role in innate immune system. More related to t-cells than other innate immune cells. Nk cells- many surface receptors similar to t-cells. Human natural killer cells- make copious amounts of cytokines--> tnf alpha as well as inhibitory ones such as il-10. Cd56 dim- make much less cytokines than cd56 bright, but usually killers. Majority of cells in blood- a lot of nk cells. All virally infected cell--> produce ifn gamma and beta. Macrophage--> sends cytokine back- positive feed back loop--> gives il-12 for activationa and il- 15 for survival. Main response--> can make copious amounts of cytokines. Killing function--> more through initiating through receptor to receptor interactions. Antibody on cell--> nk recognize from fc region and is able to kill. Nk cells cytotoxity activated at sites of viral infection. After activation, they will differentiate into cytotoxic cells. Effector nk cells--> will bind and create synapse to kill cells with granules.
