His idea is not directly related to attachemnt, but is about the idea of trust that relates to attachment. Idea of learning theorists is that caregivers are associated with the relief of hunger. Took infant monkeys, separated them from real moms and placed them with surrogates. One was a wire surrogate with bottle, provided food. One surrogate was made of terry cloth, but no food. Monkeys choose nurturance over sustenance, chose terry cloth mother over wire mother. "want of love can damage an infant for life"
