1. a) Describe the age related changes in the following hormones and b) for
each on explain how this change may increase the vulnerability to one
age associated change for each one :
1) estrogen, is a female sex hormone, during menopause
estrogen levels decrease making one more vulnerable to developing
depression and experiencing mood swings.
2) Vitamin D Is a hormone produced by the kidneys to
regulate calcium. If you are vitamin D deficient you may experience
depression, and digestive trouble that can be confused with age
associated conditions.
3) parathyroid hormone is produced by the parathyroid glands
and regulates calcium levels throughout the body. When levels are not
regulated it can cause age associated conditions such as anxiety,
depression and digestive problems.
4) ADH or Antidiuretic Hormone is produced in the
hypothalamus. It regulates the release and conservation of water in the
body. Decreased ADH can cause loss of water and increase is of
Dehydration.
5) Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that
regulates glucose/ sugar levels in the body. If sugar levels are to low or to
high it can cause disorientation, confusion, lethargy, dizziness and other
age associated issues.
6) melatonin A hormone produced by the pineal gland that
regulates sleep and wakefulness. If melatonin levels are unbalanced it can
cause people to want to sleep excessively or keeps them from sleeping.
This can lead to age associated issues such as dementia and depression.
