Can be a risk factor for later psychological difficulty (such as conduct problems or anxiety) The goodness of fit between temperament & environment guides development either positively or negatively. Temperamental qualities that are more extreme tend to be more influential (difficult temperament as an example) The expression of temperament changes with age. Consider (partly because temperament is based in biological systems that mature significantly in childhood & adolescence) In sum, temperament interacts with the environment over time to shape personality & social development.
