From infancy into early childhood, development in all of the domains happen rapidly, and they don"t do it in the same way or the same time frame: there"s a developmental window. In groups, brainstorm what you learned about each developmental domain in early childhood and how children develop during each stage. Physical: as children grow, there are two categories of physical growth: Fine motor skills: complexity of factors influence development. Exposure to experiences and opportunities, to other models. Language: there is a developmental window for when we hear sounds, interaction. Cognitive: scaffolding, zone of proximal development (zpd) Here"s what a kid can do, and here"s what a kid can do with help. Social/emotional: they play by themselves, they play with each other. They try on different roles: learning pragmatics, the social expectations of your culture, attachment. Early attachment is essential for healthy growth and can have long-term effects on development.
