When people develop sense of time running out, they"re more likely to focus on the emotional rewards of relationships than the informational ones. Therefore they prefer to spend time with the people they are closest to in their lives (true for younger and older adults). Older adults more likely to avoid negative stimuli and react more slowly in emotionally provoking situation. Some studies show a positivity bias in older vs younger adults, some studies show both groups similar. When encountered with emotionally provoking situations older adults think twice, maintain emotional control better able to regulate negative emotions and do so more quickly. Emphasizes the role of the ego, the structure in personality that is theorized to perform the executive functions of personality.
