Mass education : the idea that everybody in society has basic education (can read) is a relative new idea. Up until this point there may have been some schooling in country side but it was often done at home or related to the church. In the late 19th century mass education begins and it will be free. You won"t go to church for learning now it will happen at a public school. If you create a nation state, you can help teach them about common cultural teach them the common language. In 1850 half of europe was literate but then late. Popular press : will help spread ideas of the enlightenment. New ideas : new ideas will shake relationships with church. Leisure cultural: the idea that you get days off from work is radically new. Decline of religion : church attendance dropped almost in half. The people now have other things to do during church time.
