A randomized control trial was conducted to test the effects of a 12-week yoga practice on blood glucose levels and lipid profiles of elderly women previously diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. 20 55-70 year-old women with t2dm were eligible for the trial: 10 subjects participated in a 12-week yoga practice while 10 subjects remained as the control group participating in no yoga practices. The results of the study show a significant (p < 0. 01) decrease in fasting plasma glucose, postprandial blood sugar, total cholesterol, triglycerides, ldl- cholesterol, and vldl-cholesterol levels in women participating in the 12-week yoga practice. The results also show a significant (p < 0. 01) increase in hdl-cholesterol in women participating in the yoga practice. The control group showed no changes in lipid profiles throughout the 12 weeks.
