Document Summary
Less developed regions account for the greatest amount of population growth. More developed regions have little to no growth. Rapid growth: creates wide base - classic pyramid. Declining growth: has a shrinking (constricted) base. Somewhat stable level of growth: base doesn"t change much. The elderly are growing more rapidly around the world than any other age group. Thomas malthus: population would increase rapidly as long as support was available. Population increases at geometric rate (2, 4, 8, 16, etc) Food increases at arithmetic rate (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, etc) Population checks: preventative checks: humans invoke when they foresee consequences of unbridled population growth (population control, positive checks: destructive checks resulting from tension that were caused by overpopulation (famine, pestilence, poverty, war) Recycling and better resource management traced to neo-malthusian precepts (ideas) Any permanent change in residence (either individual or groups) Migration becomes more important in grow rates as more people change location.
