Process by which a culture group undergoes a major modification by adopting the characteristics of another. Usually associated with conquest of that group or migration. Traditional and cultural traits of a society that are resistant to change from outside. Most groups are rural/isolated to preserve their traditions. Amish people is an example of this. Popular items mass produced and less expensive to adopt (consumerism) Society tries to identify individuals as having a certain identity, even if they don"t agree with that. Subcultures: used to describe group based on ancestry, ethnonationalism. Notion a specific ethnic group has special rights over other groups: ethnocentrism. Tendency to judge other cultures by the standards of one"s own culture. People don"t like to move and don"t change their location, even if they are in natural danger. 3 reasons for not moving zones: hazards are rare occurrences, people"s memories are short, cultural hazard more dangerous than natural ones.
