Document Summary
Renal clearance (getting rid of stuff from your blood by putting it in urine) Calculated value representing volume of plasma from which s is completely cleared per unit time. Cs = (us * v ) / ps ; where: V = urine volume/unit time (a flow rate) Inulin only appears in urine due to filtration (no more added by secretion, or removed by reabsorption) Assume us = 125 mg/ml; v = 1 ml/min, pin = 1mg/ml. Cs = (125 mg/ml * 1 ml/min) / 1 mg/ml = 125 ml/min (125 ml/min * 60 min/hr = 7500 ml/hr = 7. 5 lit/hr: assume cinulin = 7. 5 lit/hr; conclude gfr = 7. 5 lit/hr. If cx < cinulin (gfr); then conclude substance x is filtered and reabsorbed. If cy > cinulin (gfr); then conclude substance y is filtered and secreted (added to urine by secretion)
