Document Summary
Psyc1100 lecture 9 - sensation and perception i. Office hours rescheduled to friday 10/5 3-4pm bous127. We have 5 senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell . This isn"t the whole story, there are other bodily senses that add to the bigger picture of sensation. Sensation + our bodies + our environment = perception. Sensation: becoming aware of the world around us. Through transduction this light is turned into something our bodies can act on. Nervous system processes like action potential send these messages to our brain. Just noticeable difference : the thresholds of sensation ex) at which point can we not see shapes in a darkening room. Connection between the internal systems and our environment. The information we receive from the outside world (outside-in) Our perception based on what we expect. Top-down systems can shape and constrain our perception. Relates to change blindness (how we are blind to the changes we don"t expect)
