PSYC 2200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Loratadine, Benadryl, Spinal Nerve
Document Summary
To protect against things getting into the brain and spinal cord the barrier prevents things from getting in. Means that the drug can cross the blood-brain barrier. Benadryl can pass through blood brain barrier while claritin and allegra cannot. Lymes disease can cause dangerous neurological symptoms called encephalopathies if it is able to pass the bbb. Diseases can come through in 3 ways, direct crossing, trojan horse inside monocytes with particles, or piggyback through an immune response. Vertebrae same in every person for the most part. Tip of spine, involved with back of legs. For each vertebrae theres a nerve pair, one on right and left. Carry outgoing sensory information from that part of the body. Can trace to zones of the body thanks to vertebrae. Goes into the fat between the dura membrane and the vertebrae. Local anesthesia can cause a temporary paralysis of spinal cord so it cant get to parts of brain, mitigates pain and motor input.
