Use brutal warfare to bully subject peoples into paying tribute and taxes. Kingdom in 722 bce, exiles most of populace. According to the bible, the north was ravished bc they left the holy land/jerusalem and it served as a punishment from god. Judah absorbs a large influx of refugees from conquered israel.
