Provide daily time for students to write. Writing is complex and requires a lot of practice. Teach students to use the writing process for a variety of purposes. A - teach students the writing process. Strategy instruction: cognitive modeling and self-regulated learning. B - teach students to write for a variety of purposes. Purpose refers to why we write - author"s intention. Teach students to become fluent with handwriting, spelling, sentence construction, typing, and word processing. Lack of fluency with transcription skills draws attention away from idea- generation and increases frustration and decreases motivation. Should foster natural motivation - collaboration and feedback; share and publish writing; range of writing purposes, genres, and tasks. Writers generate ideas based on background knowledge and new information. Writers draw on language skills to translate their ideas into sentences. Includes all the skills needed to get those sentences on paper. Types of written texts for different purposes.
