Would send out land surveyors to divide and sell the land. George washington and thomas jefferson were involved with land speculation. Many, like jefferson, saw the war as a way to gain more land for. Slavery, indentured servants, apprenticeship (somewhere in between, signed contract) By 1800, indentured servitude had almost ceased to exist in america. Nearly every founding father, north and south, owned slaves at one point in time. African slaves saw this to apply to themselves as well. African americans were speaking out: we deserve liberty. Revolution momentarily looked to threaten the institution of slavery.
