In tradiional grammar, experts focused on tradiional concepts as sentences (invented and made up), analyzed in isolaion to arrive to the goal of meaning. In more modern grammars, experts focus on the message depending on the context in order to convey meaning. In these modern grammar, context plays an important role. Semanics pragmaics: pragmaics deals with the meaning in context, semanics in sentences and words in isolaion: uterance: in pragmaics, instead of dealing with sentences, we deal with uterances. Uterances are paricular to spoken language and they are unique as the speaker can say the uterance in one way or another depending on the context of producion. The approach in pragmaics is more descripive than prescripive. The focus in on the speaker and what he/she wants to convey (the speaker"s intended meaning) Discourse analysis: it"s a discipline similar to pragmaics as they are focused on the language in context.
