Proximity- the physical distance between 2 people. Functional distance: now often people"s paths cross. Propinquity effect: the more we see and interact with people, the more likely we are to start a relationship with them. Functional distance: closeness between places in term of interaction opportunities. Festinger (1950)- people are friends with paths they cross- more likely to be friends with people with mailboxes near each other. High probability of meeting people in close distance. Often close to people because of shared setting. Darley and berscheid (1967)- when people anticipate get more excited- like more. Mere exposure effect: the tendency for novel stimuli to be liked more or rated more positively after being repeatedly exposed to a person. Zajonc (1968, 1970)- people prefer chinese diagrams (no idea what it is) Just seeing stimulus multiple times makes us like it. Halo effect: the belief that physically attractive people have a wide range of positive characteristics.
