STATS 408 Lecture 11: Week 11 Lecture Notes
Document Summary
People learn in different ways and at different speeds. If you build a system that ignores this, you"re going to be in trouble. May undermine intrinsic desires to do things ( coming from within you ) We can learn from experiment or theory alone. Called this because always work, always true (don"t need context) If system is stable (probability of event is same on days it happens as days it doesn"t), ask about common cause of variation. Psychology needs met, they will do anything to have these met so extrinsic rewards may be required. If pressure is on you to get great gpa by your parents, they are emphasizing ext reward (gpa), and you may do what you need to get high gpa and ignore learning (i. e. pick easier classes). If we are worried about finding ways to achieve purpose, have to worry about extrinsic rewards. Little kids are reaching out to experience the world around them.
