PHSL 3051 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Sodium Chloride, Oncotic Pressure, Nephron
Document Summary
Found in back wall embedded within connective tissue in the posterior wall of the abdominal cavity. Medulla (within the kidney) is hyperosmotic (nacl and urea) Allows us to save water if needed. Urine after leaving and going into the urinary bladder. Bowman"s capsule that leads into the tubules. Distal tubule leads to a collecting duct. Loop of henle: hairpin loop that leads to distal tubule. Long loop of henle that dip into hyperosmotic interstitium. Part of the distal tubule and afferent arteriole come in contact. Regulation of blood ionic composition, blood ph, blood volume, and blood pressure. To produce urine you perform 3 basic tasks. Tubular reabsorption returning useful substances to blood. Tubular secretion getting rid of additional substances not useful to the body: filtration from blood plasma into nephron, tubular reabsorption from fluid into blood, tubular secretion from blood into fluid, urine (excreted substances, plasma (kept substances)
