PHIL 1033 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Jean-Paul Sartre, Nanny
Document Summary
If sartre is right, others are free to do as they please. We shouldn"t be worried about what other people are choosing because that is not our fault. Why would there be anguish in our own case: it appears that there is no wrong decision that we could make. One decision might lead to something that we don"t want to happen. No wrong decision when choosing our values sartre says: a value fair at the imu , if we did choose our values, they would be arbitrary. Cant just call ourselves surgeons when we never went to school or anything physical/genetic limitations: surgeon, comedian, talk-show host, professional athlete. If we are all free, then the freedom of others would appear to interfere with our own: male nanny, attorney, scientist, small business owner, wfa player, sartre even appears to acknowledge this in some passages (306).
