LGST 240 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Confirmation Bias, Cognitive Evaluation Theory, Loss Aversion
Document Summary
Motivation- you are moved to do something; what makes you do something vs. nothing; may be counterintuitive. Apple was able to motivate people to buy their product by making people linger. Think about users, the nature of the task at hand, and how to employ motivation. Behaviorism- looking at what people do: talks about influencing behavior through the use of a stimulus, the stimulus gets associated with a behavior, classical conditioning = stimulus -> behavior. Dog salivating when hearing bell: operant conditioning. Learning: the consequences cause you to change your behavior. The consequences enforce positive or negative reinforcement i. e. skinner"s rat experiment. If you get a reward, you learn to act a certain way o: as long as the rewards are always there, you will do the behavior more. The behaviorist program: restrict yourself to the black box , what"s inside the person"s head is off-limits, we can test what goes in and what comes out.
