Interpersonal communication: type of communication that only happens between two people (more than 2 is small group) Even if you have a close group of friends you will have your own interpersonal relationship with each person. Reinforces, strengths the relationship, the communication reflects your relationship. Exists on a continuum: know you not that well, or know you really well. Two people come together, and even if you separate, you would still stay as you were because the relationship has shaped you. The relationship has changed you in some way: can have similar relationship but won"t be the same. Conflict tends to happen when someone is important to you, interdependent. Uncertainty reduction theory: we share info about ourselves in reciprocal fashion because people don"t like uncertainty (sometimes make assumptions too) School, family, religion, art, politics, sports, hopes, fears, etc. ) as you get to know someone, you expand on topics, venture into talking about other topics, add subjects in.
