Document Summary

Eukaryotic cells: cells whose primary complement of dna is enclosed within a nucleus. Prokaryotic cells: cells whose dna is not enclosed with a nucleus. Nucleus: membrane-lined compartment that encloses the primary complement of dna in eukaryotic cells. Organelle: a highly organized structure that serves some specialized function. Cytosol: a protein-rich, jelly-like fluid in which the cell"s organelles are immersed. Cytoskeleton: internal scaffolding consisting of three types of protein fibers. Plasma membrane: outer lining of the cell. Cytoplasm: the region of the cell inside the plasma membrane but outside the nucleus. Dna is confined within the nucleus bound by a membrane called the nuclear envelope: the double membrane that lines the nucleus in the eukaryotic cell. Dna"s instructions are copied onto a second long-chain molecule called the rna, but the main form is messenger rna, or mrna, and it moves out through the nuclear pores and drop it off in the cytoplasm.
