Document Summary

In dr. lisa son"s colloquium on metacognition and dehumanization , she observes the theoretical question of whether or not metacognition is exclusive to humans and if so, if it is what differentiates us from robots. Furthermore she examines the accuracy of our metacognition and the origin of its flaws. The methodology that she uses in answering these questions is drawing on evidence from research to determine if metacognition or higher level thinking about thinking" is what makes humans special. Tests were run with humans where they were asked to learn the synonyms of specific words and then rate on a scale from one to ten how confident they were about learning the term. The people ended up choosing to study the terms they felt least confident about, which demonstrates they used their metacognition to determine what information they thought they knew best. A meta-level test was next performed with monkeys where they were given a betting procedure.
