Nutrient density- a measure of nutrients provided by the food relative to its calorie content. Calorie- unit of measure to express the amount of energy provided by a food. Phytochemical- a substance found in plants that is not an essential nutrient but may have health benefits. Zoochemicals- animal foods that contain health promoting properties. Functional foods- a food that has health promoting properties beyond basic nutritional functions (broccoli) Variety- choosing foods from each food group, choosing diverse foods within each group. Balance- balancing food that your consuming with the activities you are doing. Moderation- consuming a certain amount of food based on what our calorie needs are, to control out weight. Nutrition density- when comparing two foods of same calories, on will have more nutrition than the other. Body composition= % muscle and % fat. Nutritional status- an individual"s health, as it is influenced by the intake and utilization of nutrients.
