28 views7 pages

Document Summary

In the male, remember that the urethra connects with the ejaculatory duct in the prostate region, so the urethra is shared by both systems. andro=male. Functions of the male reproductive system: to produce the male hormone testosterone, to produce and store spermatozoa, which are the male reproductive cells, to produce, transport, and release semen. Male sex cells are called spermatozoa, and are produced in the testes (also referred to as testicles). The singular form of the sex cells are spermatazoon, and the singular form of testes is testis. Spermatozoa develop in cooler temperatures so their location is important. Males normally have two testicles which descend during fetal development and eventually move to a sac outside the body called the scrotum. The scrotum protects the testes and also helps to regulate temperature. If the testes remained in the pelvis they would be 2-3 degrees warmer.
