Document Summary

Article due wednesday: how the neural plate develops into the neural tube. At 18 days cross section of dorsal ectoderm of embryo and neural plate develops: neural proliferation/ migration and aggregation. Most division happens in the ventricle zone (inside of the tube. ) Cells then migrates on a lattice of radial glial cells. Cells then aggregate to form structures" such as nuclei. When neurons in baby form they are more like blobulous amoeba but can actually move self around. Movement directed by chemical attractant telling where to go. Hansel and gretel analogy bread crumbs. ---find way back because following crumbs. Part of trail= physical lattice work provided by glial cells. Some cells travel further than others: migration and aggregation is mediated by cell-adhesion molecules (cams) (class of protein) on the surface of neurons and other cells. Happens throughout cell biology (not something particular to neuros/ glial cells) Cell adhesions molecules = basic of cell biology.
