Document Summary

Experiment 1: safety and equipment in the lab. To build a library of glassware/equipment and their use. To classify glassware depending on its use in the lab. To record data in an organized manner. Before starting any experiment, students must be familiarized with safety rules and should know the toxicity of the substances that will be used, this toxicity is usually found in the sds (safety data sheets) available online for all chemicals. A list of basic safety rules in the lab is provided on page 5. Following these rules ensures that each lab will be completed without major incidents. Most labs have a series of safety equipment available in case of accident including safety showers, eye wash stations, spill kits, fire extinguishers, etc. During this semester you will not be performing experiments in the lab, however you must be familiarized with safe procedures as you will be doing some chemistry experiments at home this semester.
