Everybody in contemporary society has their point of view and perspective on any given subject. As a result of these divergent viewpoints and beliefs, healthy debates emerge, allowing society to progress. The disparity in perspectives on what people consider moral or immoral in the community is a hot topic. Hobbes and kant are two well-known philosophers who have opposing views on human nature and reasoning. Thomas hobbes provides a practical perspective on this problem, believing that when a person is in or has authority, they should do good. On the other hand, immanuel kant takes a robust rationalistic approach, believing that good comes from the desire for anything in life (hobbes & gaskin, 1998). This paper analyzes and contrasts thomas hobbes" and immanuel kant"s perspectives on what is desirable in a community. After analyzing their differing perspectives on what constitutes "excellent," the paper determines who has the more straightforward explanation.
