The correlation of alcohol consumption and sexual assault against women in canada. Annually 460,000 sexual assaults occur in canada of which, more than 310,000 are against women, yet only 5% of the cases are reported (sheehy, 2012). Sexual assault is defined as any unwanted sexual act done by one person to another (boyd, 2015). Respectively, half of these occasions involve alcohol consumption by the assailant, victim or both (sheehy, 2012). A lot of researchers have focused on alcohol and its significance, labelling it as the most common date-rape drug in canada overcoming cannabis (raman-wilms, 2013). Based on raman-wilms (2013), a date-rape drug is any type of drug or substance used to make the victim vulnerable to rape or sexual assault by taking over the brain"s basic motor skills, causing confusion and loss of coordination. Why are women the major victims of sexual assault? and does alcohol affect men and women equally? (sheehy, 2012) remain uncovered.
