Document Summary

Contrast w/ some other non-scientific ways of forming beliefs about the world. Scientific theories typically explain relationship between 2 or more variables. Falsifiable must be possible to make observation that would show proposition to be false, even if observation has not been made. Under certain circumstances, positive intergroup contact can reduce prejudice. When more objective measures are unavailable people will evaluate their own abilities/qualities by comparing themselves to similar others. People can learn by observing others, in the absence of explicit behavioural reproduction or reinforcement. Sample hypothesis students who join study with students from another race will show reduced prejudice toward that outgroup compared w/ students who join a study group w/ only people from their same race. Variables characteristic/condition that changes/has diff values for diff individuals. Independent manipulated in order to see impact on dependent variable. Dependent measured in order to see how it is affected by independent variable.
