Business management theory with real life example introduction: One business management theory that i identify with is servant leadership, which was first introduced by robert k. greenleaf in the 1970s. This theory is based on the idea that the primary role of a leader is to serve their team and help them achieve their full potential. According to greenleaf (1977), "the servant-leader is servant first it begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead" (p. 27). Example: one real-life example of servant leadership in action is the company. Zappos, which is known for its customer-centric culture and has consistently ranked highly on lists of the best places to work. Hsieh, is a strong advocate for servant leadership and has implemented this philosophy throughout the organization. At zappos, employees are given a high level of autonomy and are encouraged to take ownership of their work.

This assignment asks you to analyze various companies' missionor organizational vision statements to determine how suchstatements guide leadership practices within an organization.Select a mission statement or organizational vision statement fromone company that professes to practice servant leadership and onethat practices a standard leadership model. Some well-knowncompanies that practice servant leadership are Southwest Airlines,REI, and Aflac. Conduct additional research to locate others. Onceyou have selected two companies, write a 1,000-1,250 word analysisthat addresses the following: Compare and contrast the missionand/or organizational visions statements of the two companies. Whatare the similarities and differences? How do you think thesestatements impact the culture of each organization? What servantleadership principles or values are either explicitly or implicitlyapparent in the mission/vision statement of the company thatprofesses to be servant-led? Explain how you see the principlesexpressed in the statements manifested in each companyâs publicreputation, and how they treat their employees in the services theyprovide, their marketing, etc. Provide a few specific examples todemonstrate your points. Do you think each company is living outthe values/principles expressed in their statements? Why or whynot?
