(2p) Group III and IV Given the following facts, determine the metal present. A solution of the metals from groups III and IV was treated with NH3 and H2S. (1) The mixture was centrifuged; the solid was laid aside for future use. The supernatant liquid was treated with (NH4)2CO3. A white precipitate formed. The white precipitate was treated with 6M acetic acid. A clear solution resulted; the clear solution was treated with K2CrO4 and a yellow precipitate formed; the mixture above was centrifuge. The supernatant resulting was treated with (NH4)2C2O4; no precipitate resulted. The precipitate from (1) above was treated with 6 M HCl and dissolved completely; the solution obtained was treated with 6M NH3 and 3% H2O2. The mixture obtained was centrifuged. A yellow supernatant and a brown precipitate were obtained. The brown precipitate was dissolved in 6 M HCl and produced a deep red color when treated with KSCN. Write the formula of ions present in the original mixture. Put an X in the appropriate column in the Table below for each ion in the Group. Ion Definite present Definitely Absent Need more Information Cr+3 Fe+2 Ni+2 Ba+2 Ca+2
