First stage of labor: begins when contractions are spaced 10-15min; ends when cervix is fully dilated. They start out pain-free, but they end up lasting a minute and happening every thirty seconds. Second stage of labor (delivery): begins when fetus" head passes through cervix & ends when the baby has emerged. Third stage of labor (afterbirth): placenta is expelled. If a woman is too exhausted from the pain, then she might not be able to push. If she"s disconnected from her pain, she might not notice complications with the pregnancy. It could make the baby more lethargic, especially if it"s done improperly.
