Information system: a set of interrelated components that collect (or retrieve), process, store, and distribute information to support decision making and control in an organization. Businesses invest a lot in information systems to get these six strategic businesses objective: (see textbook pg 10-12 for explanation of each: operational excellence, new products, services & business models, customer and supplier intimacy, competitive advantage, survivial. Three major changes in the technology area are: the emerging mobile digital platform, the growth of online software as a service (saas, the growth in cloud computing in which more business software runs over the internet. A digital firm is one in which nearly all of the organizations significant business relationships with customers, suppliers, and employees are digitally enabled and mediated. Core business processes are accomplished through digital networks spanning the entire organization or linking multiple organizations.
