Personality theories fall under paradigms that represent what is emphasized in the theories. Experiments in the field are experimental, controlled, quantified. Clinical method is the founding data on personality. Recognize importance of situations/context to understand [personality of] the individual (people behave , feel, think differently in different situation) Studying this allows us to predict, understand, [exercise a sense of]control human behaviour. Paradigm: a pattern/example shown side by side with an object/instance for comparison. This book look at seven paradigms of personality, most of which originate from psychoanalysis (freud) Observing people and asking questions: looking at those with difficulties can help us understand normal people too. (i. e. , looking at extreme examples will help us better understand) Personality theory in psychology and personality theory as science. Determinism: all events in nature act in lawful ways. Is human behaviour lawful? (human are biologically lawful --> that"s why medicine works, but what about psychologically?)
