Document Summary

Photosynthesis 2: calvin cycle and alternative carbon fixation. Production of nadph occurs: during the light reactions only psii: obtains electrons from water. Psi: obtains electrons from psii (by way of the etc) Summary of light reactions (in the thylakoids) pigments excited by light, transfer and lose electrons to acceptor in. Psii electrons from water replace one lost to acceptor. Psi excited by light, transfer and lose electron to second etc. Psi electrons replaced by those passed from psii down first etc. Solar power generates atp (chemical energy), nadph (reducing power- important in calvin cycle) Atp and nadph produced on the side facing the stroma, where the calvin cycle takes place- which makes them available for calvin cycle. Atp synthesis occurs in the mitochondrial matrix and the stroma. Requires input of energy (atp & nadph- to reduce co2 to sugar) Each co2 attaches to a 5 carbon sugar rubp. Splits into 2- three carbon sugars glyceraldehyde- 3 phosphate.
