According to the rationalist view, we make moral judgements consciously and deliberately. We make moral judgements for the most part based on emotional responsesthis is the emotivist account. Flash of negative affect gives me the judgement that this particular thing is wrong. The most prominent historical defender (or was it opponent) of the emotivist view is. Slow controlled, analytical conscious, takes a lot of effort. In a nutshell, intuitions come first, strategic reasoning second. Unable to explain reasons as to why one believes a certain thing or does a certain thing. E. g. brother and sister having sex with each other. We can make moral judgements based on our reasoning. 4 laws of objection: intuitive moral judgments can be rationally reappraised, articulating reason for our moral judgements is just hard, our intuitions can be shaped by conscious reasoning, our intuitions can be shaped by other people"s reasoning.
