Accuracy can be influenced by sampling, weighting, question wording and design, interviewer effects and willingness of people to respond honestly in a particular poll setting. Varieties of polls: cross sectional- one shot interview, snapshot of opinion, panel survey - repeated interviews w/ same respondent, rolling - multiple cross sections. Inconsistently = ambivalence, uncertainty, & equivocation. doorstep opinions - little info. / interest = make up answers recent events / survey questions affect mood. Differences in question wording reveals (often) very different answers. (a) reluctant / afraid to say opinion (b) no opinion don"t know answer - don"t know answer inconsistent answer. People"s responses change, relationship of partisanship to other indicators change.
