The classical theory of concepts: Wittgenstein proposed a weaving of family resemblances** rather than grouping things by means of a definition. Boundaries do not seem clear and distinct. The same person may give different answers on different occasions. Not all members seem to be equally representative of a concept. Although no one problem with these characteristics itself devastates this theory, the entire set is evidence of the theory"s inadequacy. Prototype theory is a response to the failure of classical theory. It gave up the idea of defining features, and replaced them with the idea of characteristic or typical features. Concepts have a prototype structure, not that the concepts.
