Testing hypothesis introduces methods and mythological flaws, scientific thinking occurs in two levels a) conceptual level make methods concrete, what you think is happening b) operational level. Relation between media exposure and behaviour longitudinal relationship, positive advantage: pre- measures of media exposure. Testing what you observe i. e. self esteem, self report scale ex. Violent behaviour = observation, taken from a scale, measurement scale. Operationalization is the process of taking one"s pure" theoretical construct, and figuring out how to represent it through some sort of measurement device. (based on a theory) Because for each item, you don"t really know how well it actually reflects the construct you"re trying to measure. You need to find convergent evidence, asked several questions. Internal consistency = the extent to which scale items inter-correlate with each other; high i. c. suggests that the various items are at least all measuring the same construct!
