Introduced in 1978, by hindelang, gottfredson and garofalo: same gottfredson who co authored a general theory of crime, offenders don"t select victims at random, follow similar lifestyle patterns to their victims, and often resemble victims in terms of age, gender, social class and ethnic origin, tupac, criminalized and victimized, was poor, in certain neighborhood, peers were in similar situation. Eight propositions: more time in public, more likely you are to become victim, lifestyle choices influence likelihood to spend more or less time in public, people interact with other people who share similar lifestyles, chances are higher of being victimized by someone who has same demographic profile as you, lifestyle choices influence amount of time you spend with non family, chances of becoming victim increase with time spent with non family, lifestyle choices influence ability to isolate yourself from offenders, variations in lifestyle can influence how easy it is to victimize you.
