Theory: statement or a tentative explanation of how and why specific facts or variables are related. Goal: explain events or predict events in the social world. Everyone theorizes; sociologists look to break down common sense thinking, they draw upon other sociologists and they draw systematically on data to develop. We draw on experiences and perceptions to develop our theories. Used to understand social issues, processes and structures. It sees society as the product of everyday interactions of individuals. There are also more modern sociological theories: feminist theories, post- Structuralist theory, queer theory, post-colonial theory, anti-racist theories.
