Grave danger in confusing advancement of knowledge with growing complexity of intellectual structures - basically it is not so much a system of discovering what was true/false as of understanding how mankind has gradually overcome certain contradictions. Philosophy has evolved; it has solved problems of balance or support and as having invented logical refinements. Anthropology: while remaining human himself, the anthropologist tries to study and judge mankind from a point of view sufficientely lofty and remote to allow him to disregard the particular circumstances of a given society or civilization. Conditions in which he lives and works cut him off physically from his group for long periods. One of few genuine vocations because one can discover it in oneself, even though one may have been taught nothing about it. Beyond the rational there exists a more important and valid category - that of meaningful which is the highest mode of being of the rational.
