Document Summary
Light comes into one microcircuit (cid:224) feed forward to ganglion: directionally selective ganglion cell, (cid:224) electrically signals to other ganglion cells to fire (corresponds to where the signal will be next, so ganglion cells can fire w/o the rest of their microcircuit being active, multiple ganglion cells for one direction can be activated this way. What happens if you have damage to v1: blindsight: patients w damage to primary visual cortex can still make visual judgements, but cannot build a consciously accessible percept of the stimuli or make voluntary actions to the stimulus, can still make some visual judgements but don"t know that they"re accurately making them, force the choice ex. which side has diagonal stripes, consistently answer correctly, have some visual perception, not rich in info, can"t describe imagery that corresponds to stimuli, blindsight appears to depend on intact lgn, projects to v1 & other areas of visual cortex don"t know what info these signals provide.
