To many people, the term learning signifies the activities that students od - reading, listening and taking tests in order to acquire new information this process which is known as cognitive learning, is just one type of learning. Another way that we learn is by associative learning, which is the focus of this module. You probably associate certain holidays with specific sights, sounds and smells, or foods with specific flavors and textures. Learning that occurs when a neutral stimulus elicits a response that was originally caused by another stimulus. In pavlov"s experiment, the neutral stimulus was the sound of the tone, which was paired with meat powder that could by itself elicit salivation. Classical conditioning, also referred to as pavlovian conditioning, influences many other responses as well and occurs in a variety of settings. Is an external event or cue that elicits a response.
