In britain, taking a year off is so common that its called gap year. The idea is that when you return, you are more ready and settled to do better. Males develop stable identity before committing to intimate relationships. Females commit to intimate relationships first, which shapes their identity. Developed alternative model of identity development in adolescence. Adolescence are seen as passing through and 1 of 4 identity status. These status differ in dimension of commitment and level of exploration that the adolescent put into these identity. Identity achievement: teenagers have successfully explored and thought through who they are and what they want to do.
